Client: Southern Railway

Location: Glynde, East Sussex

Drivepoint Contractors was the Principal Contractor on this project which involved the Design and Build of a step free access ramp from platform 1 onto a newly constructed public footpath.

Glynde station is situated within a conservation area of the South Downs National Park. Whilst the ramp had to be designed in accordance with NWR standards for DDA access, careful consideration also had to be taken due to the location with regards to the type of materials used as well as the design and construction needing to be sympathetic to the surrounding area.

The construction consisted of cutting and re-profiling the embankment, excavating and concreting strip foundations, installation of a soakaway and surface drainage. Forming brick retaining walls, installation of lighting and CCTV with associated ducting and draw pits, handrail installation and tarmac surfacing.

The ramps entrance was situated at road level where there was no public footpath. A safety audit was required to take into account NWR requirements of vehicle incursion. Footpath, crossing points and surfacing of both the new footpath and carriageway was completed in accordance with Section 278 Works. Soft landscaping and fencing around the whole area was also completed.
